Horsham Rugby Club approached us to solve a sound volume problem within the Main and Small bar areas, where lots of people congregate for the social events. The building’s original use was for agricultural purpose thus the sound performance was not great. The client was not too keen on a wall-to-wall suspended ceiling solution as they liked the open industrial feel to the roof area with the existing suspended spotlights on service trays and the high roof contours.

Due to the busy nature of the Horsham Rugby Club, it was decided to complete the works in 2 phases, starting on the main large bar area where we fitted nine acoustic rafts and then the members bar and small bar where we fitted a further ten acoustic rafts, all of which were 1800mm long x 1200mm wide x 40mm thick.  These were installed between the light tracks with laser levelling, set equally apart to achieve an evenly spaced surface area for good sound absorption.

The acoustic rafts are manufactured by Ecophon and comprise a glass wool material which is then surface coated with Akutex FT to achieve an optimum sound absorption. The rafts are available in assorted colours and shapes and sizes to suite the application. The rafts on this project were suspended off the existing roofing panels on adjustable wires, which were set out at the optimum heights and positioning to compliment the existing ceiling services, open feel, and vibe of the club. These rectangular solo rafts from Ecophon help to absorb sound transfer and reverberation of sound within the bar areas by absorbing sound from all directions, which allows people to hear each other more effectively and clearer.

The Ecophon rafts are therefore perfect for any public or private establishment, where room volume needs to be improved, thus creating a healthy noise level environment for work or leisure activities.
